Arm Warmers / Leg Warmers - Zappi's Way!

Arm warmers and leg warmers are seldom found in everyday life and when faced with them for the first time how to use them can confuse even the most intelligent cyclist.

Literally an additional but removable item of your cycling attire they are designed to offer flexibility. We think they have three primary uses

  • When the temperature cannot make up it's mind
  • When a long sleeve jersey or full bib tight would be too warm
  • If you wont be able to stand the cold when you leave for your ride but wont be able to stand the heat when the going gets tough.

When the temperature cannot make up it's mind

The temperature fluctuations during a Spring or Autumn day can massive, when you leave the house in the morning it can be a chilly 8 °C but by lunch it might rise to a much milder 17°C. It's almost impossible to dress for this kind of weather, a typical jersey and short combination do not offer the flexibility.

Wearing leg warmers and arm warmers in the morning is a great way to get around this, they can be removed when it becomes uncomfortably hot and stowed in your jersey pocket.

When a long sleeve jersey or full bib tight would be too warm

It might be that it's simply too warm for a long sleeve jersey and too cool for a short sleeve jersey. Combining a Zappi baselayer with both arm warmers and legwarmers can make all the difference, enabling you to find the right balance. BUT NEVER WEAR LEG WARMERS AND SHORT SLEEVES AT THE SAME TIME - It's just not the done thing!

If you won't be able to stand the cold when you leave for your ride but won't be able to stand the heat when the going gets tough.

During a race or hard ride on a cold day it's hard for the body to thermoregulate effectively. It might be cold when you set off, but when you exert yourself you get hot and a long sleeve jersey will be too warm. This will make the ride uncomfortable and can affect performance.

Wearing arm warmers and leg warmers and then removing them makes it easier to strike the balance and is much easier than changing your entire outfit on the bike...

You can also roll arm warmers down the arms when you're really pushing on. It's easier and saves time!

TOP TIP - Practice removing the warmers on the bike before riding in a group. It's safer for you and those around you!
